The College of General Education at Tongmyong University (Dean Jeong Ji-eon), the College of Liberal Arts at Busan Catholic University (Dean Won Hyungjun), and the Charis College at Changshin University (Dean Kim Euijin) recently signed a "Mutual Agreement for the Operation of a Joint General Education Curriculum and Microdegree."
Three universities, including Dongmyung University, are signing an MOU to jointly operate a liberal arts education microdegree program. Provided by Dongmyung University
This agreement was established to strengthen the educational cooperation system among universities in the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam region and to provide students with broader learning opportunities.
As the first achievement of this agreement, the three universities jointly developed a general education microdegree program under the theme "Sustainable Future and ESG." This program adopts a step-by-step approach, starting with online remote lectures and expanding into living lab-based practical classes that directly address local community issues.
The program is designed so that students can develop practical competencies by engaging in real-world problem-solving processes, rather than stopping at theory.
Notably, this case marks the first attempt in Korea to jointly operate a microdegree system in the field of general education, enabling credit exchange and joint course offerings based on an inter-university resource sharing system.
Students from the three universities who complete four jointly offered courses (totaling nine credits) will receive a microdegree certificate co-issued by all three universities.
Going forward, the three universities plan to expand cooperation in various areas, including not only credit exchange but also sharing educational content, faculty collaboration, and promoting student exchanges. In addition, through a joint consultative body, they aim to enhance the sustainability and effectiveness of the operation and to broaden the scope of cooperation beyond general education to include extracurricular programs.
