Nationwide Contest for Festival Name
Applications Accepted Until the 25th
Muan County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) announced on the 15th that it will hold a nationwide contest to find a new identity for the '28th Muan Lotus Festival,' which will be held for four days from June 26 to 29 at the Hoesan Baekryeonji area in Illo-eup.
Until now, the Lotus Festival had been held during the peak blooming season of white lotuses in July and August, but in response to climate change and heat waves, this year's event will take place at the end of June, about a month earlier than last year. Accordingly, the county has decided to hold a contest for a new festival name in order to secure the diversity and sustainability of the event without being bound by the lotus blooming period.
The new festival name should maintain the brand value of the existing Lotus Festival while also reflecting the concept of the festival, which combines the nature and nighttime scenery of Hoesan Baekryeonji.
The contest is open until the 25th, and anyone in the country can participate. To enter, participants should refer to the public notice on the Muan County website, fill out the application form, and submit it via email.
The entries will be judged, and the winners will receive prize money: 300,000 KRW for the grand prize (one person), 200,000 KRW for the excellence prize (one person), and 100,000 KRW for the encouragement prize (one person). The winners will be individually notified in May.
Park Moonjae, Chairman of the Festival Promotion Committee, stated, "Since the festival is held before the lotuses bloom, we are looking to create a new festival name to narrow the gap between visitors' expectations and the actual experience. Through this nationwide contest, we hope to discover a fresh and appealing name."
