Chosun University (President Kim Chunseong) announced on the 14th that the Climate Crisis Response Convergence Talent Cultivation Project Group will host the "Green Leaders Book Club," a reading group aimed at strengthening climate literacy competencies.
This reading group will be held 2 to 3 times a month until December, for a total of 20 sessions. Five Chosun University professors, ten students, and five residents of Gwangju Metropolitan City are expected to participate. Participating students will receive 5M of cultural mileage per session.
The reading group will operate in a format where participants read and discuss books focused on the seriousness of the climate crisis and environmental issues. A professional instructor will present the core themes of each book, and participants will take turns extracting and summarizing key contents before engaging in further discussion.
The selected books are: "Silent Spring," "The Climate Book," "The Nutmeg's Curse," "Global Ecovillage Network," and "Critical Ecofeminism," totaling five titles. These books cover the scientific basis of the climate crisis, its social impacts, and examples of alternative practices, and are structured to help insights gained from reading lead to practical action in daily life.
This reading group is expected to go beyond simple reading, serving as an opportunity to seek both critical thinking and practical alternatives regarding the climate crisis.
Kang Heesook, head of the Chosun University Climate Crisis Response Convergence Talent Cultivation Project Group and professor in the Department of Korean Language and Literature, stated, "This reading group is meaningful in that it is a forum where not only students and professors but also ordinary citizens can participate, read, and discuss together," adding, "We expect this to serve as an opportunity to establish a virtuous cycle of 'sharing-discussion-practice' based on climate literacy."
