If You Have a Photo, ChatGPT Can Generate It
Almost Indistinguishable from Real Products on Sale
Recently, the AI images in the style of Studio Ghibli that sparked a craze for changing messenger profiles have faded, and now the 'Barbie Box Challenge,' which transforms oneself into a Barbie doll, is gaining popularity on social networking services (SNS). On the 10th (local time), British media The Mirror and other foreign outlets reported that the Barbie Box Challenge created by ChatGPT is establishing itself as a new trend on SNS. This challenge involves users transforming their appearance into a Barbie doll inside a box.
Images generated by AI are contained in plastic boxes like Barbie dolls sold in toy stores. These even depict real accessories in detail, leading some to say it is difficult to distinguish them from products sold on the market. Recently, images of politicians such as U.S. President Donald Trump and Elon Musk have also been rapidly spreading through social media. X (X)
The AI-generated images are depicted inside plastic boxes, resembling Barbie dolls sold in toy stores. Some have noted that the detailed depiction of actual accessories makes it difficult to distinguish from products available on the market. Recently, images of politicians such as former U.S. President Donald Trump and Elon Musk have also rapidly spread through SNS. Celebrities with millions of Instagram followers have joined the trend by sharing their AI-generated Barbie doll images.
The method to participate in the Barbie Box Challenge is similar to transforming images into the Studio Ghibli style. First, open the ChatGPT app or access it via a web browser and upload your photo. The Mirror explained that next, you enter a prompt such as "Create an action figure style image inside a box using this photo," specify the desired list of accessories, name, description, box color, and the AI automatically generates the image.
While the Barbie Box Challenge is quickly replacing the previously popular Studio Ghibli style AI images, predictions suggest that more trends will emerge in line with the rapid development of AI capabilities. Jasmine Enberg, senior social media analyst at eMarketer, told the BBC in an interview, "Generative AI makes it easier and faster for people to create and leverage trends," adding, "Above all, as AI technology increasingly plays a larger role in digital life, AI-driven trends will frequently appear on SNS."
