Announcement of Presidential Bid Followed by Campaign Team Appointments
Vision Presentation on the 15th... Detailed Pledges to Be Unveiled
Former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo will officially announce his presidential bid on the 14th. He is expected to present his aspirations and pledges to open the era of the "7th Republic and an advanced nation," which he has declared.
On the day, Hong will make his announcement at 2 p.m. at the 'Mudaehong' campaign office located in the Daehwa Building in Yeouido, Seoul. After expressing his presidential ambitions, he will announce the first round of appointments for the election campaign committee at 4 p.m.
Earlier in the morning, he will visit Kwon Young-se, the Emergency Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, and Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader, to inform them of his presidential candidacy. He will then visit the party headquarters to meet with party officials.
On this day, Hong is expected to unveil his presidential vision under the slogan "Opening the Era of the 7th Republic and an Advanced Nation." On the 10th, he published a book with the same title, sharing his direction for national governance.
On the 15th, he plans to hold a vision presentation event to announce detailed pledges. He will deliver 100 projects across various fields under the banner "100 Plus (+) 1." This draws on his experience implementing the "Daegu Innovation 100+1" project during his tenure as Daegu mayor. Hong categorized the 100 innovations into future innovation, industrial innovation, livelihood innovation, spatial innovation, administrative innovation, fiscal innovation, and global innovation, with the "+1" representing the "Daegu-Gyeongbuk administrative integration."
Hong has gradually revealed his pledges through social media (SNS). These include ▲reforming the college entrance exam system to allow two attempts, ▲abolishing the Constitutional Court and establishing a Constitutional Tribunal within the Supreme Court, ▲introducing a presidential and vice-presidential system with a four-year renewable term, ▲creating a bicameral legislature, ▲establishing a national investigation agency and abolishing the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, ▲reviving the death penalty, and ▲military reform.
Considering Hong’s recognition and his traditional support base in TK (Daegu and Gyeongbuk), it is widely expected that he will comfortably enter the top four candidates in the People Power Party’s presidential primary. However, to pass the second round of voting, which accounts for half of the party vote, he is anticipated to compete against former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo, who leads conservative support and opposed the impeachment of former President Yoon Seok-youl.
On the day, Hong appeared on CBS Radio’s "Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show," stating, "I am running to ask the people whether they will choose the Lee Jae-myung administration or the Hong Joon-pyo administration," adding, "Considering my 30 years of experience and ability to respond to domestic and international emergencies, I am the better candidate."
