Selected for the 'High-Precision Electronic Map Construction Challenge Project' by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport,
Securing 1 Billion KRW in National Funding
Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province has been finally selected for the '2025 2nd High-Precision Electronic Map (1/1000 Digital Topographic Map) Construction Challenge Project' hosted by the National Geographic Information Institute of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, securing a national budget of 1.0025 billion KRW.
This project will be carried out with a total budget of 2.005 billion KRW (1.0025 billion KRW each from the national and city budgets), targeting an urban area of 82 km². The latest topographic information will be constructed as three-dimensional spatial data using LiDAR and drones.
Through this project, the existing topographic map produced in 2016 will be updated for the first time in about 10 years, and a high-precision electronic map combined with digital twin technology will be established.
A 'digital topographic map' refers to a map that is computerized at a certain scale by structuring the location and shape of topographic features and place names as data based on aerial photography and ground surveys.
This high-precision electronic map will digitize not only ground but also underground and underwater locations, as well as topography, features, and place names in high resolution, making it applicable in various fields such as transportation, environment, disaster safety, and autonomous driving. In particular, it is expected to enhance the efficiency of administrative and private sector tasks such as policy making, urban planning, licensing, and facility maintenance.
In addition, by converting the map update system to an on-demand system, significant cost savings in revision and production are also anticipated.
Cho Jonggeun, Head of the Land Information Division of Yeongju City, said, "Being selected for this project is an achievement that externally recognizes Yeongju City's spatial information capabilities," and added, "We will do our best to realize an 'evolving smart Yeongju City' where citizens and the administration utilize high-precision spatial information together."
