Gwangju City announced on the 12th that it will conduct the '2025 Intensive Safety Inspection' for 61 days from the 14th to June 13th.

This inspection will target 495 aging, hazardous, and infrastructure facilities. Of these, 121 facilities are delegated by central government ministries, while the remaining 374 are facilities selected independently by Gwangju City and the autonomous districts.

The intensive safety inspection will be carried out as a systematic on-site joint inspection involving not only public officials but also private experts and citizens. Through this, the city expects to eliminate safety blind spots and conduct effective inspections.

Even after the inspection, the city plans to ensure thoroughness through on-site and follow-up inspections by institution heads, and after June, to conduct evaluations by autonomous district and share best practices.

Prior to the safety inspection, on the 11th, the city held the 'Initial Report Meeting for Intensive Safety Inspection' at the Chungmu Facility in City Hall. The meeting was attended by representatives from 19 organizations, including Gwangju City, autonomous districts, and affiliated agencies and corporations.

At the meeting, last year's inspection results were shared, and this year's inspection plans and institution-specific strategies were reported. Plans to establish a public-private cooperation system to enhance inspection effectiveness were also discussed.

On the first day of the intensive safety inspection, the city will hold a promotional campaign for public officials on the first floor of City Hall. Ko Gwangwan, Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs, and other public officials will distribute promotional materials and emphasize the importance of voluntary safety inspections.

Deputy Mayor Ko Gwangwan stressed, "I hope the atmosphere of safety inspections spreads widely throughout the public sector," adding, "We will do our utmost to take preemptive measures to protect the lives and property of citizens."
