Jeollanam-do held a 'Disaster Countermeasure Meeting for Strong Winds and Heavy Rain' at the provincial government disaster safety situation room on the 11th, with directors and disaster response managers from city and county offices in attendance, to thoroughly review response measures for each sector.
This was in response to forecasts that, over the weekend of the 12th and 13th, the entire Jeollanam-do region would experience 10 to 50mm of rainfall accompanied by strong winds with instantaneous speeds exceeding 20m/s, and high waves at sea.
Jeollanam-do plans to closely cooperate with cities and counties to strengthen frequent inspections of disaster-prone areas such as landslide risk zones, riversides, underpasses, and riverside parking lots. If any signs of danger are detected, the province will proactively implement controls and immediately evacuate residents.
In particular, the province will address safety blind spots by: ▲ preventing cold damage to crops, inspecting greenhouse openers and closers, and quickly completing pollination in pear orchards ▲ securing and mooring fishing boats, checking the stability of aquaculture facilities ▲ managing the safety of visitors at spring festival venues and major tourist attractions ▲ intensively inspecting tower cranes and temporary fences at construction sites.
Kang Younggu, Director of the Jeollanam-do Provincial Safety Office, said, "As both strong winds and heavy rain are forecasted, the possibility of unexpected damages is high," and requested, "Please actively cooperate with preemptive measures such as restricting the departure of small fishing boats and releasing the swing brakes of tower cranes at construction sites to prevent any casualties."
