French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to suspend reciprocal tariffs between countries for 90 days but expressed concerns that uncertainties still remain.

In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on the same day, President Macron said, "The U.S. 90-day suspension is a signal for negotiation," but added, "However, this suspension remains unstable." He further noted, "Because the 25% tariffs on steel, aluminum, and automobiles, as well as the 10% tariffs on all other products, still exist," expressing concern that "these tariffs impose a burden of 52 billion euros on the European Union (EU)."

He also stated, "This 90-day suspension means 90 days of uncertainty for all companies on both sides of the Atlantic, and its impact extends beyond that," emphasizing, "Our goal, along with the EU Commission, is simple: to negotiate the withdrawal of unfair tariffs and to achieve a balanced agreement without asymmetry."

President Macron added, "Europe must protect itself and mobilize all available means to prevent logistics inflows from third countries from unbalancing our market," and said, "The U.S. tariffs are directly hitting our companies and industrial activities. What we are fighting for is justified. This is a matter that concerns our jobs and the lives of our communities."
