According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 11th, Special Envoy Jang visited La Paz, the capital of Bolivia, during this period and paid a courtesy call on Vice President David Choquehuanca C?spedes. South Korea and Bolivia established diplomatic relations in 1965. This visit by a high-ranking Korean official to Bolivia is the first in about two years since the dispatch of a special envoy group of foreign ministers in May 2023.

The two countries evaluated the continuous development of their friendly cooperative relationship over the past 60 years and agreed to strengthen practical cooperation in various fields going forward. Special Envoy Jang expressed condolences and solidarity for the victims of the recent heavy rains and floods in Bolivia. He also conveyed hopes that high-level exchanges between the two countries would be revitalized in celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations and Bolivia’s 200th anniversary of independence this year.

On the 10th, Special Envoy Jang held a meeting with Alvaro Luis Garcia, Minister of Environment of Bolivia. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation on the international stage to respond to climate change and exchanged views on bilateral cooperation measures to reduce greenhouse gases.

He also met with Sergio Cusicanqui Loayza, Minister of Planning and Development, to evaluate the achievements of bilateral development cooperation and exchanged opinions on the possibility of expanding practical cooperation into new areas such as key minerals (lithium).

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "This visit by the special envoy of the foreign minister to Bolivia serves as an opportunity to convey our unwavering determination to promote friendly and cooperative relations with Latin America and strengthen the foundation for practical cooperation amid increasing uncertainties caused by the global complex crisis." He added, "We will continue diplomatic efforts to strengthen friendly and cooperative relations with the Latin American region in the future."
