Maisan Mountain Selected as One of Korea's Top 100 Tourist Destinations
Jinan County in North Jeolla Province is busy preparing to welcome spring visitors eager to enjoy the late-blooming cherry blossoms.
According to the county on the 11th, the cherry blossoms in the southern area of Maisan Mountain are currently at about 30% bloom, and are expected to reach full bloom around the 15th.
The county is famous for its "latest-blooming cherry blossoms in the nation" due to its highland climate at an average altitude of 400 meters. Among them, the cherry blossoms in the southern area of Maisan are especially renowned for their spectacular beauty, which is considered the best in the country due to their late blooming.
Maisan Mountain, which has consistently been selected as one of the "Top 100 Tourist Destinations in Korea," offers not only the pleasure of its scenic views but also a 2.5 km cherry blossom tunnel connecting Isanmyeo and Tapsa Temple. The tunnel blooms beautifully every spring, with the grandeur of its old trees attracting lines of spring visitors.
The cherry blossoms near Tapyeongje, which have frequently appeared in various dramas and entertainment programs such as "Pyeonstorang," were also at 30% bloom as of the morning of the 11th. For those who wish to avoid the crowded cherry blossom paths, the Demisaem Cherry Blossom Road is another excellent option.
This 7.2 km stretch runs from Bansong-ri in Baegun-myeon to the boundary of Jangsu-gun in Sinam-ri, leading toward Demisaem, the source of the Seomjingang River. The surrounding tranquil mountain villages and rural landscapes offer a more modest and peaceful beauty.
In particular, the path from Demisaem Natural Recreation Forest, located at a high altitude of 850 meters, to the summit of Seoguijae was also at 30% bloom as of the morning of the 11th, and is expected to be in full bloom by mid-next week.
The county expects that, with heavy rain and wind forecast nationwide on the 12th and 14th, most of the cherry blossoms in other regions that are currently in full bloom will fall. However, since the cherry blossoms in southern Maisan and along the Demisaem Cherry Blossom Road are only at 30% bloom as of now, visitors will still be able to enjoy the spring atmosphere brought by the cherry blossoms in the third week of April.
On the other hand, the cherry blossom paths around Yongdam Lake are already in full bloom and are expected to be at their peak until around the 13th.
A county official said, "For those who missed the peak of the cherry blossoms due to a busy schedule, we invite you to visit Jinan, where you can see the late-blooming cherry blossoms," and added, "We hope many people will visit this famous spot to enjoy a splendid cherry blossom ending this spring."
