This challenge was established to create a social atmosphere that supports the coexistence of work and family and to spread a work environment friendly to childbirth and childcare. It started last December with seven financial associations, including the Korea Federation of Banks, and is spreading throughout the financial sector.
Kyobo Life Insurance was the first in the financial industry to receive the Family-Friendly Excellent Company certification from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family in 2008 and has maintained this certification to date. The family-friendly certification is a system that awards companies that foster a family-friendly culture, such as support for pregnancy, childbirth, child-rearing, and flexible working hours. In 2022, Kyobo Life Insurance maintained the certification for 15 consecutive years and was selected as the 'No. 1 Top Family-Friendly Company.'
Under the corporate philosophy of 'Respect for Life,' Kyobo Life Insurance operates various family-friendly systems. It supports employees in balancing work and family through encouraging maternity and parental leave, reducing working hours during pregnancy, spousal paternity leave, fetal checkup and infertility treatment leave, flexible working hours, family care leave and sabbaticals, and childcare allowance payments.
For pregnant female employees, Kyobo Life Insurance allows reduced working hours throughout the entire pregnancy period regardless of the pregnancy week to help prepare for a healthy pregnancy and childbirth. In 2013, it also opened the industry's first workplace daycare center, 'Kyobo Life Dasomi Daycare Center.'
Employees with preschool children receive a monthly childcare allowance, and elementary school children are supported with books through a book curation system. For middle and high school as well as university students, tuition subsidies are provided, offering support throughout the entire life cycle from childbirth to university graduation.
Cho Dae-gyu, President of Kyobo Life Insurance, said, "Kyobo Life Insurance was the first company in the industry to receive family-friendly certification and operates various systems to help employees harmoniously balance work and family." He added, "We will continue to further develop a family-friendly corporate culture and actively participate in solving the social challenge of overcoming the low birthrate."
