Bitgoeul On School Supports Credit System with Remote Classes

Expansion of Small-Scale and Second Foreign Language Courses
After-School, Weekend Classes, and In-Person Counseling Now Offered

Bitgoeul On School, a remote learning institution under the Gwangju Office of Education, is supplementing the limitations of individual schools in offering certain courses by operating a variety of educational programs in line with the implementation of the high school credit system.

Bitgoeul On School Supports Credit System with Remote Classes Established in September 2023, Bitgoeul On School is operating various curricula this year in line with the introduction of the high school credit system. Bitgoeul On School is equipped with the latest facilities and offers small-group subjects tailored to the diverse needs of students. Provided by Gwangju Office of Education

According to the Gwangju Office of Education on the 9th, Bitgoeul On School, which was established in September 2023, opened 26 small-scale courses in the first semester of this year, including 'Artificial Intelligence Mathematics,' 'Advanced Physics,' 'Basics of Nursing,' 'Big Data Analysis,' and 'Art History.' Although the high school credit system allows students to choose and complete credits in subjects based on their career paths and aptitudes, there have been concerns about the difficulty in opening some courses due to the circumstances of each school.

To address this reality, Bitgoeul On School operates part-time commissioned education at the request of high schools in the Gwangju area and provides various career exploration opportunities mainly through real-time interactive remote classes. Courses in second foreign languages such as French, German, and Spanish, which have all but disappeared from individual schools, as well as Classical Chinese, have also been offered. In particular, Classical Chinese has become a popular subject, attracting 83 applicants.

The fact that students can take classes at various times, including after school on weekdays and on weekends, in addition to regular class hours, has also received positive feedback from students. Starting this year, a 'Face-to-Face Class Counseling Week' has been introduced, allowing teachers to visit the schools where students are enrolled to conduct classes and counseling sessions in person.

Principal Cho Mikyung said, "We are helping students develop self-directed learning skills through discussions and practical exercises, rather than simply listening to lectures," and added, "We will actively support education that provides practical benefits for students' futures."
