Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju is set to actively identify housing benefit recipients using data-driven methods to alleviate the housing cost burden for low-income households.
On the 9th, Gwangsan-gu announced plans to conduct a comprehensive survey of 2,755 households receiving education benefits, which have similar eligibility criteria to housing benefits, in order to proactively identify those eligible for support. Housing benefits are provided to households with an income at or below 48% of the median income (KRW 2,926,931 per month for a four-person household), and eligibility is determined based on the applicant household's income and assets.
The district will send notifications to eligible households and take follow-up measures to ensure that housing benefits are actually provided. Additionally, last year, data analysis targeting near-poor households with disabilities led to the identification of 70 households, which were then connected to both housing benefits and other welfare services.
Park Byungkyu, the head of the district office, stated, "Through data analysis, we will reduce welfare blind spots and strengthen tailored support to help vulnerable groups lead stable lives."
