"Democratic Party Files Complaint Against People Power Party Over Illegal Banners Slandering Lee Jaemyung"

Democratic Party Gwangju City Branch: "Banners Posted Even After Impeachment"
Complaint Filed with Election Commission for Alleged Violation of Public Official Election Act

The Gwangju City Branch of the Democratic Party of Korea has filed a complaint with the Election Commission against the People Power Party for alleged violations of the Public Official Election Act. They claim that despite the early presidential election process beginning after the president's impeachment ruling, the People Power Party's act of putting up banners slandering Representative Lee Jaemyung is a clear illegal act.

On the 8th, the Gwangju City Branch of the Democratic Party stated, "From the 4th, when the Constitutional Court's decision to remove the president from office was made, until now, the People Power Party has been putting up banners across the region slandering Representative Lee Jaemyung, with phrases such as 'Incitement to rebellion at the drop of a hat, the Democratic Party of Lee Jaemyung is rebellion itself.' This is a violation of the restrictions on election campaigning under the election law."

According to the Public Official Election Act, from the time the reason for holding an election is confirmed until election day, it is prohibited to display banners containing the name of a political party, the name of a candidate, or any content that could infer such information.

The Democratic Party said, "The act of putting up banners by the People Power Party is a serious violation of the law that distorts voters' judgment and undermines a fair election culture," and added, "We plan to take strong action, including immediate removal and filing complaints."
