The National Credit Union Federation of Korea (Saemaeul Geumgo Central Association) announced on the 8th that it has launched the 'MG Hope Sharing Baby Snake Savings' to celebrate the Year of the Snake in 2025.
The Baby Snake Savings is a public interest product prepared by Saemaeul Geumgo to overcome the low birthrate, following the Kkangchong Savings (2023) and Yongyong Savings (2024).
The Baby Snake Savings is a one-year fixed-term savings product launched with a limit of 50,000 accounts. Deposits can be made up to 200,000 KRW per month, offering a maximum annual interest rate benefit of 12%. The base interest rate is 10% per year, and preferential interest rates apply for families with multiple children: 11% per year from the second child and 12% per year from the third child onward.
To commemorate the launch of the Baby Snake Savings product, the Central Association held the first subscription event on the 7th at the Guri Saemaeul Geumgo headquarters located in Sutaek-dong, Guri-si, Gyeonggi-do, attended by Choi Hoon, the guiding director of the Saemaeul Geumgo Central Association, and subscribers.
At the event, a father with a late-born child born in the Year of the Snake and a father from a multicultural family who had a third child born in the Year of the Snake received preferential interest rate benefits along with a separate birth congratulatory gift of 1 million KRW.
Choi Hoon, guiding director of the Saemaeul Geumgo Central Association, said, "To overcome the social issue of low birthrate, we launched the Baby Snake Savings this year following last year's Yongyong Savings. Saemaeul Geumgo, as a financial institution coexisting with local communities, will contribute not only to the low birthrate issue but also to job support for youth and elderly generations, welfare projects for solitary elderly people in welfare blind spots, and North Korean defectors."
