Retirement Ceremony at Government Sejong Office at 3 p.m.
Leading Conservative Support... Full-Scale Presidential Bid Preparation
Kim Moon-soo, Minister of Employment and Labor, will resign from his ministerial position on the 8th to run for the presidential election.
According to political circles, Minister Kim is expected to express his intention to resign after concluding the Cabinet meeting at the Government Seoul Office in the morning. At 3 p.m., a farewell ceremony will be held at the Government Sejong Office.
Until the day before, Minister Kim had shown a cautious stance, saying he was "considering" whether to run for president, but by resigning from his ministerial post on this day, he appears to be entering full-scale presidential election preparations.
After signing a business agreement at the Kia Osan Education Center in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province the day before, Minister Kim told reporters, "I was not preparing to run, but public interest in me increased during last year's martial law and impeachment phases," adding, "Therefore, I myself am not well prepared and am considering various things."
Minister Kim has maintained the top solid conservative support during the impeachment phase of former President Yoon Seok-youl. By expressing opposition to former President Yoon's impeachment, he solidified his support base.
The day before, 125 former members of the National Assembly belonging to the conservative camp urged Minister Kim to run for president. The 'Group of Former National Assembly Members Wishing for Minister Kim Moon-soo's Presidential Candidacy' included Mok Yo-sang, Standing Advisor of the People Power Party, as well as former lawmakers Park Cheol-eon, Cha Myung-jin, Song Young-sun, and Shim Kyu-cheol.
