After the 12·3 emergency martial law incident, Jeon Han-gil, a famous instructor who has publicly supported former President Yoon Seok-yeol, announced on the Korean history online cafe he operates that "all political posts have been removed."
On the 4th, when the Constitutional Court unanimously ruled to impeach President Yoon Seok-yeol, famous Korean history instructor Jeon Han-gil, who had opposed the impeachment, stated, "We must win the early presidential election." Screenshot from the YouTube channel 'Jeon Han-gil News'
On the 5th, Jeon posted a message titled "This is Han-gil teacher. Today's National Level 9 Public Official Exam Review and Hits" on the cafe he runs. Jeon shared information related to the National Level 9 Korean History exam and the schedule for his explanatory lectures. He added, "All political posts unrelated to the nature of our cafe have been deleted, and I ask that only posts appropriate to the cafe's character be posted in the future." However, it is presumed that the political posts he referred to as "all deleted" were posts by cafe members, not his own writings.
Jeon has continued his political remarks through his recently launched one-person media channel, "Jeon Han-gil News." While watching the Constitutional Court ruling on former President Yoon live and feeling frustrated, he said, "Please donate for the victory of the 'early presidential election,'" and added, "I will prepare for the next presidential election." Jeon also mentioned the real names of several politicians from the People Power Party, saying, "I will try to guess who can defeat Lee Jae-myung."
On the 6th, Jeon refuted a media report claiming that he was collecting early presidential election donations from his supporters after former President Yoon's dismissal, stating, "This is a clear example of how a media outlet with a specific political bias can forcibly impose a frame," and argued, "The article depicts history instructor Jeon Han-gil as a 'money-driven person,' implying that his political participation is motivated by personal financial gain."
He continued, "What is the reality? As I have mentioned several times, Jeon Han-gil has earned over 18 billion won in income over three years and pays about 2.7 billion won in taxes annually. In December last year, he signed a long-term contract worth 6 billion won per year, ensuring stable income for the coming years. Income from textbook sales is separate. Interpreting Jeon Han-gil's reason for entering politics after giving up all the income sources he has enjoyed so far as 'money' is an unreasonable assertion beyond common sense."
Jeon added, "The decision to participate in politics was made to establish a right-wing civil society base," and said, "The goal is to create a conservative right-wing think tank like the Heritage Foundation in the United States and to build a system that nurtures and supports right-wing talents in politics, law, and civic activism."
Meanwhile, according to the Fundraising Act, anyone intending to raise donations exceeding 10 million won must register in advance with the authorities. Additionally, Article 31 of the Political Funds Act prohibits domestic and foreign corporations or organizations from donating political funds and prohibits political funds from being donated using related funds. If the subscription fees collected through "Jeon Han-gil News," established by Jeon, are used to support political funds, there may be legal issues.
