"Wedding Challenge to Be Held at IU's Drama Wedding Venue from 'When Life Gives You Tangerines'"

A wedding challenge will be held at Gasil Catholic Church in Chilgok County, Gyeongsangbuk-do, which is known as the wedding venue for the main character, IU, in the Netflix drama "When Life Gives You Tangerines."

According to Chilgok County on April 7, the "Gasil Catholic Church Wedding Challenge" will take place until April 18, using the church as a backdrop. The church gained attention as the filming location for the wedding scene in the Netflix drama "When Life Gives You Tangerines."

The event was inspired by a scene in the latter part of the drama, where the protagonist Geum Myeong (played by IU) walks with her father in front of the red-brick church. This scene was filmed at Gasil Catholic Church, located in Waegwan-eup, Chilgok County. After the broadcast, viewers flooded in with questions such as "Where is the church where IU got married?" and there was a surge in visitors to the actual site as well as inquiries about wedding photoshoots.

Chilgok County organized the wedding challenge to turn this interest into a boost for local tourism. To participate, simply take a photo or video at Gasil Catholic Church, smiling brightly like IU in the drama, and upload it to social media. A Chilgok County official stated, "Attire, age, gender, and appearance do not matter. The only judging criterion is how genuinely and happily you are smiling."

Kim Jaeuk, the governor of Chilgok County, said, "The drama has once again brought attention to the historical and cultural value of Gasil Catholic Church," adding, "We plan to promote the charm of Chilgok, where history, culture, and faith come together, to a wider audience by utilizing various Catholic cultural assets, including the 'Holy Festival' Catholic cultural event to be held in May."

He continued, "Just like the beautiful scene in the drama, anyone can stand in that spot and capture a happy moment. We hope that through this challenge, more people will discover the appeal of Gasil Catholic Church and Chilgok."
