On the 4th, following the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol, the five district mayors of Gwangju stated, "The people have protected the Republic of Korea. The five districts will devote all efforts to restoring livelihoods."

The Gwangju District Mayors' Council issued a statement that day, saying, "After the declaration of martial law on December 3, which plunged the entire nation into shock and fear, we have finally regained the spring of the Republic of Korea after 123 days," and evaluated, "This day is a historic day that restored the dignity of the Republic of Korea, which was undermined by Yoon Suk-yeol."

They continued, "Yoon Suk-yeol and the People Power Party must now acknowledge their wrongdoing and sincerely apologize to the people," and demanded, "A thorough investigation into the abuse of power and conspiracy to commit rebellion must be conducted, and decisive measures must be taken against those involved in the insurrection."

Additionally, "Our great people have protected the Republic of Korea and restored democracy," they said, adding, "The five district mayors of Gwangju will remain committed to their original intentions and fulfill their responsibilities for restoring the local economy and the happiness of residents."
