"'Can't Sit Together' 'Pro-Chantan Faction Must Be Publicly Discussed' Kookhim Party Meeting Turns into a Rebuke Session [Yoon Seok-yeol Impeachment]"

Some Say, "We Should Nominate a People's Candidate, Not Just a PPP Candidate, for the Presidential Election"

At the first meeting of the People Power Party (PPP) lawmakers held after former President Yoon Seok-yeol was impeached, a flood of criticism erupted. Voices ranged from demands to "publicize the lawmakers who supported the impeachment" to calls that "no further division should occur."

On the 4th, the PPP held an emergency lawmakers' meeting immediately after the impeachment ruling against former President Yoon Seok-yeol. It was reported that some lawmakers expressed opinions that those who supported Yoon's impeachment should be publicly addressed and measures taken.

Lawmaker Yoon Sang-hyun told reporters during the meeting, "Our lawmakers are still divided," adding, "There are many who still refuse to sit together inside." Lawmaker Park Deok-heum said, "Those who do not share the same thoughts or intentions cannot work together," and explained, "There was talk about whether we can win a major election like the presidential election under such circumstances."

Some lawmakers proposed nominating a candidate who represents the people beyond just the PPP candidate in the upcoming presidential election. Lawmaker Park explained, "It's not about whether to nominate a candidate or not, but rather about nominating a people's candidate who is collectively against Lee Jae-myung."

There were also remarks regarding the leadership's position. Lawmaker Kim Yong-tae said, "I asked if they could comment on the leadership's position, but no one has given a separate statement yet."

On the same day, Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong called for party unity in his opening remarks at the meeting. Floor Leader Kwon emphasized, "For victory, we must first unite as one," adding, "With that united strength, we must join forces with all citizens who seek to protect liberal democracy and constitutional order, and all people who desire stability and integration."

Floor Leader Kwon mentioned the presidential election in two months, saying, "Despite all difficulties, we will fulfill our role as a responsible party for the nation and the people." He explained, "Time is tight, but we can never back down or lose this election because we cannot entrust the future of the Republic of Korea, which has been protected and nurtured with blood, sweat, and tears, to the perilous Lee Jae-myung faction."

Meanwhile, the PPP decided not to attend the National Assembly plenary session scheduled for 3 p.m. that day. They plan to resume the lawmakers' meeting as early as the afternoon of the 6th. Floor Spokesperson Park Soo-min stated, "We plan to listen to the public's opinions with a more humble attitude and discuss the tasks ahead and points for reflection based on the results."
