The efforts of police officers who found the home of a nonagenarian grandmother lost due to dementia are touching netizens.

On the 3rd, the National Police Agency posted a video titled "A grandmother lost and crying, 'I don't remember where my home is'" on their YouTube channel 'Republic of Korea National Police Agency.'

The video shows a grandmother getting out of a taxi at Hwajeong Police Substation of Gwangju Western Police Station on the 18th of last month. After the taxi driver reported, "An elderly person with dementia cannot find her home," they moved to the substation to request help. When the grandmother tearfully said, "Please help me find my home," the police officers reassured her, saying, "Don't worry," and guided her inside the substation.

The police immediately checked the fingerprint identification system but found no registered fingerprints. They tried to engage the grandmother in conversation to help her recall her guardian. After recording information about her remembered children and acquaintances and inputting them one by one into the inquiry system, they eventually contacted the grandmother's guardian.

Through the video, the police introduced the 'Pre-registration System for Fingerprints and Other Information' to prevent disappearances. This system allows children under 18 and individuals with intellectual, autistic, mental disabilities, or dementia to pre-register fingerprints, photos, and personal information to enable quick discovery using the registered data in case of disappearance. Registration can be done through the SafetyDream website or by visiting nearby police stations, substations, or police boxes.

Netizens responded with comments such as, "Seeing how they listened at the grandmother's eye level reminded me of my own grandmother," "The police are better than grandchildren who live far away," and "It recharges my humanity."
