Jeon-guk-gyo-jik-won-no-dong-jo:
"AI Digital Textbook and High School Tuition-Free Bills
Must Be Passed Again"
A teachers' organization announced on the 4th that it respects the Constitutional Court's decision to dismiss former President Yoon Seok-yeol.
The Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union (Jeon-guk-gyo-jik-won-no-dong-jo) issued a statement on the same day, saying, "We welcome the Constitutional Court's approval of Yoon Seok-yeol's impeachment, which upheld democracy and the rule of law."
Jeon-guk-gyo-jik-won-no-dong-jo stated, "The dismissal of Yoon Seok-yeol is a victory for democracy achieved by the power of the citizens," and added that going forward, they will work to ensure that the AI Digital Textbook education material bill and the high school tuition-free budget bill can be passed again.
The AI Digital Textbook was originally planned to be used only as educational material after the National Assembly passed a partial amendment to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act at the end of last year, downgrading it from a 'textbook' to 'educational material.' However, the government exercised its re-request authority (veto power), and its status has now been elevated back to a 'textbook.' The amendment to the Local Education Finance Grant Act for high school tuition-free education is also currently on hold due to the government's veto.
The Seoul Teachers' Union stated, "We respect the Constitutional Court's decision and hope that democracy will function properly once again."
The Seoul Teachers' Union also expressed deep gratitude to the school community that protected education amid political turmoil, saying, "We hope this judgment will serve as an opportunity to reaffirm the principles of democracy."
