BYD Asia-Pacific General Manager: "Opening Over 30 Showrooms by Year-End... Supporting Korea's Eco-Friendly Vehicle Market"

Interview with Domestic Media at Seoul Mobility Show on the 3rd

Ryu Xueliang, BYD Asia-Pacific General Manager overseeing sales of the Chinese electric vehicle brand BYD in the Asia-Pacific region, stated on the 3rd, "By the end of this year, more than 30 showrooms will be opened (in Korea)," adding, "I believe the number of service centers should exceed that of sales showrooms."

General Manager Ryu made these remarks during an interview with domestic media at the Seoul Mobility Show 2025 held at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. This is BYD's first participation in a domestic mobility exhibition since entering the Korean market earlier this year.

He expressed his ambition to expand the brand's presence by initially launching three models in the Korean market: the compact SUV Atto 3, the mid-size sedan Seal, and the mid-size SUV Sealion 7. He also added that the business in Korea will be led with a focus on brand awareness and expansion of eco-friendly vehicles from a sustainable perspective rather than short-term sales targets.

General Manager Ryu said, "Our current goal is to enable Korean consumers to experience BYD and eco-friendly vehicles more," adding, "We considered entering Korea from a sustainable viewpoint rather than short-term profits, and we will continue to bring in more vehicles to broaden our customer base."

Regarding the reasons and background for BYD's choice to enter the Korean market, he conveyed the desire to contribute to the development of eco-friendly vehicles in Korea through BYD's green technology and products. He said, "We have been considering business in Korea for the past 10 years," adding, "During that time, we have observed the transformative process led by Hyundai Motor and Kia in the eco-friendly energy industry, and BYD aims to support the development of Korea's eco-friendly industry."

He continued, "Korean consumers have a high level of understanding of electric vehicles, which allowed Hyundai Motor and Kia to rapidly increase EV adoption in Korea," and said, "In this regard, I believe the spread of electric vehicles in Korea will be faster than in Japan."

Regarding BYD's unique strengths that differentiate it from other competitors, he mentioned the internalization of core components, vertical integration through affiliated companies, and strategies securing economies of scale. General Manager Ryu said, "BYD directly manufactures all core components of electric vehicles, including batteries, motors, and electric control devices," adding, "At the same time, our vertical integration capabilities and scale in electric vehicles are our competitive advantages."
