Nintendo Co., Ltd. Korea announced on the 3rd that it will release a new video game console, the 'Nintendo Switch 2,' on June 5. The suggested retail price is 648,000 KRW.
The new Switch successor features a larger 7.9-inch display compared to the 7-inch screen of the original Nintendo Switch. The thickness of the console remains the same as the previous Switch. Games enjoyed on the original Switch can also be played on the Nintendo Switch 2. However, some software with gameplay restrictions cannot be used.
The Switch controller, called 'Joy-Con 2,' attaches to the console using magnets. The original Switch used a rail system to attach and detach the Joy-Con controllers. The Joy-Con 2 can be operated like a mouse by attaching it to the console with the side facing downward. This allows for precise, momentary control needed for games played on a desk or on pants. Both the left and right Joy-Con 2 can be used like a mouse, enabling two-handed mouse operation.
The Nintendo Switch 2 also introduces a new feature called 'Game Chat,' which allows players to video chat with friends during gameplay. This lets users share serious or smiling faces with friends while playing. Game Chat is available only to adult users. Voice chat supports up to 12 participants, while game screen sharing and video calls are limited to 4 out of the 12 participants. To enjoy the Game Chat feature, users must subscribe to the paid 'Nintendo Switch Online' service, but a free trial period will be available until March next year. Video calls require purchasing a separate Nintendo Switch 2 camera and connecting it to the console.
On the release date in June, a 'Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Set' will also be launched, which includes the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive software 'Mario Kart World' priced at 89,800 KRW. The set costs 688,000 KRW.
