Seongdong-gu Increases Welfare Points for Social Welfare Facility Workers from 100,000 to 200,000 Won

Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) announced that it will undertake a major overhaul of the 'Customized Welfare Points' for social welfare facility workers to improve welfare and working conditions.

Since 2018, Seongdong-gu has been operating the 'Customized Welfare Points' program to improve working conditions for social welfare facility workers, boost their pride, and attract excellent welfare personnel.

The 'Customized Welfare Points' are cash-equivalent points that can be used for purposes such as health management, self-development, family-friendly activities, and leisure activities.

Starting this year, the district has expanded the range of supported facilities and eligible recipients to provide welfare points not only to regular employees but also to non-regular workers employed at social welfare facilities.

Previously, welfare points were provided to 426 regular employees at 48 social welfare facilities within the district, including Seongdong Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, Geumho Daycare Center, and Seongdong Daycare Center. However, as of February this year, the scope was expanded to include non-regular workers, and welfare points were distributed to 894 workers at 88 social welfare facilities.

The support amount was also increased from 100 points (100,000 KRW) per person annually, regardless of seniority, to 200 points (200,000 KRW) per year, providing more substantial benefits.

In March, the district revised the ordinance for the improvement of treatment and status of social workers in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, expanding the scope of 'social welfare facilities.' Accordingly, social welfare facilities now include not only corporations and facilities conducting social welfare projects as defined in Article 2 of the Act on the Improvement of Treatment and Status of Social Workers but also 'other facilities recognized by the district mayor as institutions performing social welfare projects.'

Institutions that had been excluded from support despite performing social welfare duties will now be able to receive full benefits starting in April, which is expected to greatly aid in improving the treatment of social welfare facility workers and enhancing welfare services.

Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “We expect the expansion of the 'Customized Welfare Points' support to significantly improve the welfare environment for social welfare facility workers,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to promote customized policies that increase satisfaction not only for social welfare facility workers but also for welfare recipients, leading to qualitative improvements in local welfare services.”
