Hanwha, Kolon, and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) have joined forces to support infrastructure for eco-friendly education in elementary schools. The company representatives gathered on this day unanimously agreed on the need for companies to play a role, citing the crisis of climate change.

The KCCI's New Entrepreneurship Council (ERT) visited Jinjam Elementary School in Daejeon on the 2nd to hold the "6th Together Sharing Project" event. The Together Sharing Project is a flagship initiative of ERT aimed at encouraging companies to collectively consider and solve social issues. Hanwha Group and Kolon Group participated in this event.

The event took place at "Clear Resting Place," a student lounge created by Hanwha by renovating unused classrooms at Jinjam Elementary School. Attendees included Choi Tae-won, Chairman of KCCI; Kim Shin-yeon, Head of Hanwha Social Service Group (President of Hanwha Solutions); Lee Kyu-ho, Vice Chairman of Kolon; Jung Tae-hee, Chairman of Daejeon Chamber of Commerce; Kim Wan-seop, Minister of Environment; and Lee Taek-gu, Deputy Mayor for Political, Economic, and Scientific Affairs of Daejeon City.

Chairman Choi said, "Recently, wildfires and floods have occurred, and climate change is happening," adding, "I believe these events have occurred because humans have pursued convenience too much and neglected the environment." He emphasized, "Companies need to take greater interest in teaching the value of the environment more effectively to students."

After the meeting, attendees observed Kolon's "Visiting Eco-friendly Energy Education" class held on the Jinjam Elementary School playground. Students participated in a "Human Battery" educational experience, where hand-shaped patterns were arranged on the wall of a modified small bus, and engaged in a "Zero Energy Building" making experience at a booth set up on the playground, among other various eco-friendly energy education activities.

Hanwha plans to continue supporting indoor air quality improvement and environmental education in elementary schools to create a healthy educational environment for children through the "Clear School Project." Started in 2011 and renewed in 2022, the Clear School Project began with four schools in its first year and over four years supported a total of 21 schools and approximately 15,000 children with classrooms free of fine dust. This year, six schools were selected, including Jinjam Elementary in Daejeon, Yanghwa Elementary in Seoul, Geumdang Elementary in Gwangju, and Yongnam Elementary in Tongyeong. President Kim stated, "Fine dust has become a serious environmental problem that torments us, and we do not know when it will be resolved. Today, it is an unavoidable and inescapable absolute mission for our companies to grow while breathing together with society," explaining the reason for participating in the project.

Kolon also plans to expand eco-friendly energy education for local schools by participating in the Together Sharing Project. Since 2009, Kolon has conducted education for elementary and middle schools through the "Eco Longlong Project." A total of 2,146 schools and about 150,000 students have participated. The company plans to expand education to small schools in suburban areas outside Seoul, provide transportation for students who have difficulty traveling, and operate educational programs inviting them to exhibition and experience spaces located in Seoul and Gimcheon. Additionally, teaching materials will be distributed to schools in island regions. Vice Chairman Lee said, "Kolon aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and will continue operating the Eco Longlong Project to help children create a sustainable future."

Minister Kim also said, "Our Ministry of Environment will support companies with such excellent intentions to conduct their activities more efficiently while protecting the environment," adding, "Currently, individual companies' usage regulations and total volume regulations will be maintained until 2029, and from 2030, they will be combined into a single control system." He also announced plans to establish "Carbon Neutral Practice Schools" starting next year for frontline schools.
