Verification of Income and Assets
Gochang County in North Jeolla Province will conduct the regular welfare recipient eligibility verification survey for the first half of 2025 over a three-month period from June 1 to June 30.
According to the county, the verification survey, which is conducted twice a year in the first and second halves, aims to ensure the appropriateness of social security benefits for recipients.
The survey will review income and assets of recipients and their obligors for 13 welfare programs, including the Basic Livelihood Security, Basic Pension, and the near-poverty class. Eligibility will be reassessed based on 65 types of income and asset data obtained from 142 financial institutions and 21 public agencies.
The county will notify those expected to have changes in eligibility or benefits in advance to provide ample opportunity for explanation. In cases where intentional or false reporting and clear ineligibility or fraudulent receipt are identified, the county plans to fully recover any improperly paid benefits.
Additionally, for households that are not actually supported due to avoidance or dissolution of family relationships, the county will provide continued support through deliberation by the Local Livelihood Security Committee.
For households that are struggling financially after being disqualified from welfare benefits, the county plans to actively connect them with emergency support, North Jeolla-style livelihood benefits, and public assistance to minimize gaps in the welfare safety net.
Oh Sumok, head of the county’s Social Welfare Division, said, “Through accurate and transparent verification surveys, we will prevent fraudulent receipt of benefits and ensure the soundness of welfare finances. We will also continue to build a welfare safety net by actively protecting rights in blind spots and connecting welfare resources.”
