Gokseong County in Jeonnam announced on the 31st that it will carry out a free replacement project for old building number plates over the next three years, starting this year, to improve the city's appearance and allow residents to clearly identify their addresses.

The building number plates, installed in 2009 with the enforcement of the Road Name Address Act, have become faded or damaged due to prolonged exposure to sunlight and rain, making it difficult to identify addresses and causing inconveniences such as misdelivery of mail. They have also been pointed out as factors that detract from the city's aesthetics, highlighting the need for improvement.

The county plans to fully replace damaged building number plates in about 10,000 locations where the durability period (10 years) has expired since installation, from this year until 2027.

This year, starting in April, about 2,000 building number plates in Gokseong-eup, Ogok-myeon, and Godal-myeon, which were identified through a comprehensive address facility survey last year, will be fully replaced. In 2026, the replacement will cover Samgi-myeon, Seokgok-myeon, Moksadong-myeon, and Jukgok-myeon, followed by Okgwa-myeon, Ip-myeon, Gyeom-myeon, and Osan-myeon in 2027, as part of a phased renovation project for old building number plates.

Through this building number plate replacement project, the county expects not only to enhance resident convenience but also to increase the accuracy of logistics services such as mail delivery and to make it easier to identify locations in the event of a disaster, thereby improving the quality of administrative services.

A county official stated, "By replacing old building number plates, we will improve their visibility and provide accurate location information, doing our best to ensure that residents experience no inconvenience in using road name addresses through thorough maintenance of building number plates."
