Seven Eleven Launches "Popcorn Chicken"... Instant Product Sales Rise During Baseball Season
Last year, the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), which surpassed a record-breaking 10 million spectators, opened its season on the 22nd, prompting the distribution industry to launch collaborative products and make an all-out effort to attract baseball fans.
According to the distribution industry on the 25th, 'KBO Bread,' released by SPC Samlip two days before the opening, sold 1 million packs within three days of its launch, showcasing its immense popularity. KBO Bread features breads representing the characteristics of nine teams, such as the Kia Tigers' Tiger Choco Roll and the Samsung Lions' Blueberry Pastry. Each product includes one of 215 types of team-specific player stickers (Tibuseal), which are randomly enclosed and feature the team's representative players, mascots, and national team lineups. These products are sold nationwide at convenience stores such as CU, GS25, Seven Eleven, and Emart24, as well as on e-commerce platforms like Coupang and 11st, gaining great popularity.
CU, a convenience store operated by BGF Retail, also joined the baseball marketing campaign and boosted sales. On the 18th, CU exclusively launched the 'Yonsei Milk Meoksan Fresh Cream Bread,' which quickly rose to the top in sales. The Meoksan Fresh Cream Bread is named after the nickname of Doosan Bears fans, meaning the food-loving Doosan who eats throughout the game. From the first day of its release, the bread ranked first in popular search terms on the Pocket CU app, selling over 120,000 units within six days and becoming CU's top-selling dessert product. CU's overall dessert sales also increased by 19.4% within a week.

The distribution industry's efforts to capitalize on the professional baseball boom are intensifying. Seven Eleven convenience stores will launch a new 'Popcorn Chicken' product on the 27th to coincide with the baseball opening season. Popcorn Chicken is designed to be enjoyed conveniently during outdoor activities such as watching sports games, visiting amusement parks, or attending festivals, offered in a 'Colpop' (Cola + Popcorn Chicken) combo. After the professional baseball season opened last year, Seven Eleven's instant product sales increased by 30% compared to the previous month. On the Seven App mobile app, orders for instant foods through the same-day pickup service rose by 15% over a week compared to the early days after the app's renewal.
