On the 21st, the city of Gwangju held the "80th Arbor Day Tree Planting Event" at Gwangjuho Lake Ecological Garden, the first local garden designated in the region. Around 300 participants, including Mayor Kang Gijung, city officials, and volunteers, planted a total of 1,088 trees of four species: Hinoki cypress, Chinese fringe tree, crape myrtle, and Nandina. Opened in March 2006, the Gwangjuho Lake Ecological Garden spans 140,000 square meters and features themed gardens such as the Ecological Art Garden, Native Plant Garden, and Lake Healing Garden.
