Cheonan City Council Rejects Resolution to Form Special Committee for Citizen Professional Football Club Development

Rejected with 11 votes in favor, 14 against, and 2 abstentions

Cheonan City Council Rejects Resolution to Form Special Committee for Citizen Professional Football Club Development Voting Results

The proposal to form a "Special Committee for the Sustainable Development of Cheonan Citizen Professional Football Club (Cheonan City FC)," initiated by Cheonan City Council member Kim Gilja, was rejected on the 14th.

At the 2nd plenary session of the 278th extraordinary meeting held that day, the city council conducted a vote, resulting in 11 votes in favor, 14 against, and 2 abstentions out of 27 members present, leading to the rejection of the resolution.

The resolution called for the formation of a special committee to address issues such as poor performance and inadequate management, considering that the club is operated entirely with citizens' tax money.

In her speech supporting the resolution, Kim Gilja stated, "Although there have been various discussions, concerns about the club remain," and insisted, "The council should take the lead in addressing these issues by forming a special committee."

On the opposing side, Lee Sangu argued, "The club advanced to the second division in 2023 and has been gradually improving its performance. They also won the Cheonan-Asan Derby on the 9th," adding, "Forming a special committee will not help the morale or performance of the club and its players."

Meanwhile, except for Chairperson Kim Haenggeum, all members of the People Power Party opposed the resolution, while all members of the Democratic Party supported it except for Kim Myungsuk and Yoo Youngchae.
