Police investigating the exact cause of death
A high school student who was experiencing climbing as part of a program conducted by the city education center suddenly showed abnormal symptoms and ultimately died.
According to Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education on the 11th, at around 2:55 p.m. the previous day, A, a first-year high school student, showed abnormal symptoms such as hyperventilation while participating in a climbing experience activity at the Ulsan Student Education Center in Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju-gun, Ulsan. Officials at the scene immediately lowered A, who was about 3 meters high, performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and called 119. A was transported by paramedics to a nearby hospital for treatment but eventually passed away.
The experience activity A participated in was one of the 'Happiness Harmony Education' programs conducted at the Ulsan Student Education Center for first-year high school students upon school application. The school had applied for a 2-day, 1-night residential course, and it was reported that five people, including certified professional instructors and dispatched teachers, were present at the site.
An education office official said, "A’s name was not on the list of students with health issues submitted during the application for the experience activity," and added, "Warm-up exercises were conducted before climbing, and it was confirmed that they checked if any students were feeling unwell." The police are currently investigating the exact cause of A’s death.
