Pope Hospitalized for Pneumonia
"Cautious Prognosis" Lifted
The Vatican has announced that the condition of Pope Francis, who is hospitalized for an extended period due to pneumonia, is no longer serious enough to pose a life-threatening risk.
On the 10th (local time), the Vatican stated in a press release, "The Pope's health condition remains stable," adding, "The improvements observed over the past few days have become more definite, as confirmed by blood tests, clinical evaluations, and positive responses to medication."
Accordingly, the Pope's medical team has decided to lift the 'cautious prognosis,' the Vatican reported.
Pope Francis has been receiving treatment for pneumonia affecting both lungs at Rome's Gemelli Hospital for 25 days as of today.
At the beginning of his hospitalization, the medical staff consistently used the term 'cautious prognosis' due to the Pope's advanced age of 88 and the complexity of his condition.
However, as the Pope's condition gradually improved, the medical team decided not to consider his status as critical anymore.
Nevertheless, the Vatican stated that "the Pope will need to remain in the hospital for some time for additional treatment."
During his hospitalization, the Pope faced four episodes of respiratory distress, but since experiencing two acute respiratory failures on the afternoon of the 3rd, he has maintained a continuously stable condition.
The Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera reported that the Pope watched the ongoing spiritual exercises at the Vatican via video link the previous day, interpreting this as a positive sign of recovery.
