Apple, Samsung and Others Expand OLED Adoption... MacBook and iPad to Follow
IT OLED Market Expected to Surpass 50 Million Units by 2028
Last year, shipments of IT OLED (organic light-emitting diode) used in laptops and tablet PCs increased significantly.
According to the '2025 Medium-to-Large OLED Display Annual Report' published on the 10th by market research firm UBI Research, last year's OLED shipments for laptops and tablets were 8.46 million units and 7.5 million units, respectively.
Compared to 2023, the total IT OLED shipments for laptops and tablets increased by 2.2 times. By product, shipments for laptops rose by 57%, while those for tablets surged by 400%.
This sharp increase in tablet OLED shipments was analyzed to be influenced by the supply of 6.2 million units of OLED for the iPad Pro last year.
The OLED tablet PC products released last year included 8 models from manufacturers: 2 from Apple, 2 from Samsung Electronics, 2 from Huawei, and 2 from Honor.
The number of OLED laptop products also nearly doubled from 44 models in 2023 to 80 models in 2024. There is a growing possibility that OLED will be applied to the MacBook Pro in 2026 and the MacBook Air in 2028.
UBI Research predicted that following the iPad Pro, OLED will be applied to the iPad Mini, iPad Air, and others, further expanding the OLED tablet PC market.
Additionally, OLED shipments for laptops and tablets are expected to increase to 10.8 million units and 16 million units, respectively, this year, and IT OLED shipments are projected to surpass 50 million units in total by 2028.
Han Chang-wook, Vice President of UBI Research, said, "OLED, which has excellent characteristics suitable for AI-based content consumption such as outstanding contrast ratio, fast response speed, and superior color reproduction, will establish itself as a premium display in IT devices."
