Concerns Over Extreme Clashes Between Pro- and Anti-Impeachment Factions
On Lee Jaemyung: "Second Trial Verdict on Election Law Must Be Delivered by the 26th"
Ahn Cheol-soo, a member of the People Power Party classified as a potential presidential candidate, urged on the 9th, "President Yoon Seok-yeol and Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, must clearly accept the court's decision."
On the same day, Ahn posted on Facebook, stating, "We must prevent a civil war among the people and a national emergency." He continued, "I earnestly hope that we all unite under the Constitution and the rule of law for national integration," emphasizing, "The Constitutional Court's impeachment trial of the presidency is imminent. The constitutional justices must make a fair judgment solely based on the Constitution."
This statement reflects concerns about extreme clashes between pro-impeachment and anti-impeachment factions following the conclusion of the impeachment trial. Ahn pointed out, "There is a risk that this could escalate into a civil war among the people."
Ahn said, "The movie 'Civil War' is fictional, but it vividly shows what could happen if such a situation occurs. If such an unfortunate event becomes reality, South Korea will regress by decades."
Regarding Lee Jae-myung, he said, "The public is also watching the outcome of Lee's trial," adding, "Although delayed, the second trial result of Lee Jae-myung's election law case must be announced on the 26th of this month according to the scheduled procedures and the rule of law. No citizen of South Korea is exempt from the rule of law."
He further stated, "Regardless of the verdict, the ruling and opposition parties must accept it to protect the rule of law and democracy, and it is time to start new politics of dialogue and compromise beyond the 1987 system through constitutional amendment," adding, "This is the last chance to fundamentally reform society and politics, to change South Korea's era, and to advance into a new growth era leading the artificial intelligence (AI) age."
