Gwangju City Council stated on the 7th, "The request for cancellation of detention by President Yoon Sukyeol, who was arrested and indicted on charges of insurrection, has been granted," and added, "This is truly shocking. The prosecution must immediately appeal."

The council released a statement in the name of all Gwangju city council members from the Democratic Party of Korea and independents, saying, "Releasing someone detained for a serious crime that shakes the foundations of the rule of law and democracy is a decision that goes against the voice of the people and justice," and asserted their position as such.

The council emphasized, "The court's claim that the period clearly defined as 'days' by law should be calculated in 'hours' is simply incomprehensible," and added, "We cannot help but strongly condemn the court's decision to cancel the detention, which disregards the people's will to protect democracy."

The council also stated, "There are more than enough reasons for Yoon Sukyeol's detention, given his trampling of constitutional order and democracy," and added, "An immediate appeal must be filed to prevent Yoon Sukyeol from being released from prison."
