The briefing was attended by Woo Honggyun, head of the Heavy Ion Accelerator Project Team at Seoul National University Hospital, Professor Son Jaeman in charge of planning, and Kim Junwan, head of the administrative team. After receiving updates on key matters such as the project period, budget, project schedule, and the possible renaming of the therapy center, Jeong inspected the expansion site of the gantry building and the remodeling construction site.
The Gijang Heavy Ion Therapy Center is the first advanced treatment facility outside the capital area to utilize a heavy ion accelerator, often called the "dream cancer treatment device." The center began expansion and remodeling construction in January 2024, aiming for completion in April 2026, and the project is currently 67% complete.
Jeong Jongbok emphasized, "It is necessary to minimize any factors that could increase the project budget by promoting the project swiftly and proactively while thoroughly reviewing business and legal matters," and added, "Please ensure thorough operational preparations to provide advanced medical services that meet patients' expectations."
The Seoul National University Hospital Gijang Heavy Ion Therapy Center aims to complete equipment installation, beam tuning, and acceptance inspections by August 2027, with the goal of opening in the second half of 2027.
