Governor Kim Taeheum: "President Yoon's Release Shows the Rule of Law Is Alive" Kim Taeheum Chungnam Governor

Kim Tae-heum, Governor of Chungnam, stated on the 7th, "Together with the people, I welcome the release of President Yoon."

On his social media account that day, Governor Kim wrote, "The court has granted President Yoon's request for cancellation of detention," adding, "This decision demonstrates that the rule of law is alive."

He further argued, "The court's decision acknowledges that the investigation process by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, which does not have investigative authority, was not lawful and was an excessive investigation."

He emphasized, "Even from a human rights perspective, investigation and trial without detention should be the principle."

The 25th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Ji Guyon) granted President Yoon's request for cancellation of detention that day. President Yoon's side filed for cancellation of detention with the Seoul Central District Court on the 4th of last month, citing "illegal detention" as the reason.

President Yoon's side argued that both the investigation and indictment procedures for the charge of insurrection by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials were illegal, and that there was no risk of evidence destruction, insisting on President Yoon's release.
