Secured 90 Million KRW in Project Funding
Strengthening Healthcare Services
Seo-gu District in Gwangju will be the first in the city to divide its 18 administrative neighborhoods into three regions and establish and operate "Mobile Public Health Centers," thereby further strengthening resident- and field-oriented healthcare services.
Seo-gu recently announced on the 7th that it was selected for a pilot project to establish and operate an Integrated Health Center, organized by Gwangju City, and has secured a project budget of 90 million KRW.
Accordingly, Seo-gu will divide the district into Nongseong, Sangmu, and Pungam regions and plans to fully operate region-specific Integrated Health Centers from the second half of the year by reallocating health personnel and other resources.
Until now, the public health center has provided services such as Korean medicine treatment, dental treatment, oral health programs, smoking cessation, and exercise, while the Health Promotion Center has separately conducted home visits, chronic disease and rehabilitation programs, and the Dementia Relief Center has run dementia prevention and management programs. This required Seo-gu residents to visit each center individually, but from now on, public healthcare services will be provided in a one-stop manner at the Integrated Health Center.
Additionally, Seo-gu will assign health managers to each region to provide customized services to residents and will further strengthen home-visit medical services for vulnerable groups such as the elderly living alone and low-income households by linking with the integrated care system.
Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu, stated, "Through the region-specific centers, we will improve accessibility for residents and the efficiency of health programs, and by establishing an integrated health management system at the local community level, we will eliminate blind spots in local medical welfare." He added, "Seo-gu will create a successful model so that the municipality-led integrated medical and care support system, which will be fully launched next year, can be successfully established."
