'From May 18 to Yoon Suk-yeol's Impeachment... Constitutional Scholars Discuss in Gwangju'

Reevaluating the December 3 Martial Law
Seeking Improvements to the 1987 System

The Conference of Constitutional Scholars for the Restoration of Constitutional Government (Constitutional Scholars' Conference) will hold a forum at the Gwangju City Council on the afternoon of the 7th, under the theme "May 18, December 3 Martial Law, and the Impeachment of Yoon Suk-yeol." The event aims to review the 1987 system and seek ways to improve it.

This forum has been organized to evaluate the December 3 Martial Law in light of May 18, and to diagnose issues in the constitutional order based on martial law and the impeachment trial. The event will take place at 3 p.m. in the Special Budget and Accounts Committee meeting room of the Gwangju City Council.


The first presentation will be given by Shin Okju, professor at Jeonbuk National University Law School, on the topic "May 18, December 3 Martial Law, and Insurrection." The second presentation will be delivered by Jung Taeuk, professor at Inha University Law School, on the topic "December 3 Martial Law and the Impeachment of Yoon Suk-yeol." Following the presentations, Song Seontae, former chairperson of the May 18 Democratization Movement Truth Investigation Committee, Jung Daeun, member of the Gwangju City Council, and Park Guyong, professor of philosophy at Chonnam National University, will participate in the discussion.


The Constitutional Scholars' Conference is an organization formed by constitutional scholars to find ways to restore constitutional order and respond based on the Constitution following the declaration of martial law. Last month, a forum was held in the Yeongnam region, and this time, the event is being held in Gwangju to hear the opinions of experts from the Honam region.


The Constitutional Scholars' Conference stated, "We will share diverse perspectives on the martial law situation and seek the right direction for the constitutional order."
