Park Soo-young, a member of the People Power Party who had been on a hunger strike for five days opposing the appointment of Ma Eun-hyuk as a Constitutional Court Justice candidate, ended his hunger strike on the 6th.

On the same day, after holding a press conference with People Power Party lawmakers from the Busan constituency at the National Assembly Communication Office in the morning, Park was transported to a hospital.

Earlier, on the 2nd, Park began an indefinite hunger strike at the National Assembly Rotunda, stating that Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister for Economy Choi Sang-mok should not appoint candidate Ma. Kim Dae-sik, the senior spokesperson for the People Power Party in the National Assembly, told reporters at the National Assembly, "Medical staff reviewed the situation and concluded that if (Park continues the hunger strike) any longer, it could cause fatal damage to his health," adding, "There was an opinion to transfer him to the hospital, so the party leadership also ordered that he be forcibly taken to the hospital for treatment."

He continued, "He is also the chairman of the Busan City Party Committee, deputy chairman of the party’s Policy Committee, and chairman of the party’s Pension Special Committee. There are many pressing issues piled up," and added, "He will return to the party and work as soon as his health recovers."

Earlier, People Power Party Emergency Response Committee Chairman Kwon Young-se and floor leader Kwon Seong-dong, among other party leaders, visited Park on the day and requested that he stop the hunger strike. Chairman Kwon and floor leader Kwon said, "Such loyalty for the party and the country has now become known not only to local voters but also to many citizens, but even if this continues, the government cannot officially announce its position," and emphasized repeatedly, "I believe that intention has already been realized," urging him to end the hunger strike.

At this meeting, floor leader Kwon asked party officials to coordinate with the hospital and call an ambulance, requesting that the party take measures to stop Park’s hunger strike.
