Gyeongju City is accelerating the construction of a media center that will vividly deliver news of the APEC Summit to the world.
Gyeongju City is investing a budget of 13.8 billion KRW, including 6.9 billion KRW in national funds, to build an international media center with two above-ground floors and a total floor area of 6,000㎡ at the outdoor exhibition hall of the Gyeongju Hwabaek Convention Center.
Gyeongju City first reviewed the legality and feasibility of the project and had the media center recognized as a project exempt from routine audits. In addition, procedures related to building consultations and various reviews were conducted simultaneously, significantly shortening the administrative processes required for construction.
Especially considering the urgency as a national project, materials procured by the government, such as H-beams that require considerable production time, were ordered in advance to minimize the construction period as much as possible.
The media center is scheduled to complete the detailed design by April, start construction in May, and be completed by September.
Meanwhile, the media center is composed of an optimal space featuring advanced AI robots, ultra-high-speed communication networks, and media platforms.
The interior includes a main briefing room, sector-specific press rooms, interview rooms, and a business lounge, providing an optimal reporting environment for about 4,000 domestic and international journalists visiting Gyeongju.
Mayor Ju Nak-young of Gyeongju said, “We are fully committed to establishing world-class infrastructure,” adding, “Since this is an opportunity where many domestic and foreign journalists gather, we will proceed with the construction without any setbacks so that the media center can serve as a hub to promote Gyeongju and Korea.”
