The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs will join hands with the Ministry of Overseas Koreans to promote the culture of patriotism and veterans affairs within the overseas Korean community.
The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs announced on the 5th that Minister Kang Jeong-ae and Minister Lee Sang-duk of the Ministry of Overseas Koreans will sign a memorandum of understanding on the afternoon of the 6th at the Uijeongwon Hall of the Provisional Government Memorial Hall in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. Through this agreement, both organizations aim to cultivate the Korean identity among overseas Koreans and strengthen their ties with the motherland.
According to the agreement, the two organizations plan to cooperate on ▲supporting veterans education to foster the identity of the next generation of overseas Koreans ▲establishing and operating a 'Patriotism for All' promotion system to spread global patriotism culture ▲preserving and utilizing overseas independence movement historical sites and heritage ▲discovering and honoring overseas independence activists and their descendants ▲and promoting related veterans commemorative projects involving overseas Koreans both domestically and internationally, including independence and war participation.
Specifically, they will support veterans education by providing digital veterans textbooks and educational content that are easily accessible to overseas Koreans. They also plan to create opportunities for exchange between descendants of UN war veterans and the next generation of overseas Koreans to share the historical significance of participation in the Korean War.
Furthermore, they will establish a global 'Patriotism for All' cooperative system in which overseas Koreans with expertise in language, history, and public relations actively practice patriotism. Through this, they will manage overseas independence movement historical sites and carry out projects to discover overseas independence activists and their descendants, while expanding overseas Koreans’ participation in related veterans commemorative events such as independence and war participation both at home and abroad.
Minister Kang said, “I hope this agreement will serve as a starting point to share the value of patriotism not only within Korea but also with overseas Koreans worldwide, moving toward a ‘greater us.’ The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs will continue practical efforts through close cooperation with the Ministry of Overseas Koreans to ensure that the culture of patriotism takes root in the daily lives of overseas Korean communities.”
Meanwhile, after the signing ceremony, Minister Kang and Minister Lee plan to visit the special exhibition ‘The Korean Liberation Army and the National Army’ currently held at the Provisional Government Memorial Hall.
