KakaoBank Maintains AA Rating in MSCI ESG Evaluation for Second Consecutive Year
Recognized as an ESG Leader in the Banking Sector
KakaoBank announced on the 27th that it received an AA rating for the second consecutive year in the MSCI ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) evaluation announced by Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI).
MSCI evaluates the ESG management level of over 8,500 listed companies worldwide every year. The evaluation results are divided into seven grades from AAA (highest) to CCC (lowest). Various evaluation factors covering environment, society, and governance are reviewed, including eco-friendly finance, financial consumer protection, talent acquisition and development, and corporate governance.
KakaoBank maintained the 'AA rating,' classified as an 'ESG Leader' within the banking sector in this evaluation. This means that it was recognized for relatively excellent ESG management performance even among peers in the same industry. Notably, KakaoBank is the only domestic internet-only bank to have received an MSCI ESG evaluation.
KakaoBank has established a system to protect financial consumers based on identifying elements that infringe on customer rights and monitoring before and after the launch of products and services. It also provides differentiated financial education such as online financial fraud prevention training, financial education for children and adolescents, financial fraud prevention education for seniors, and customized financial education for youth preparing for independence.
KakaoBank stated, "Under the mission of 'Enhancing the meeting of finance and customers through technology and innovation,' the advancement of ESG management appears to have led to the achievement of the MSCI AA rating for two consecutive years." It added, "We will continue to pursue inclusive finance and strive to grow together with various stakeholders."
