Electric Vehicle Facility Subsidy of 610 Billion KRW Executed... Increase in Unit Price of Smart Chargers

Electric Vehicle Facility Subsidy of 610 Billion KRW Executed... Increase in Unit Price of Smart Chargers

The government will begin disbursing a budget of over 610 billion KRW for electric vehicle (EV) charging facility installation support starting next month. While increasing subsidies, the funds will mainly be allocated to facilities that enhance safety.

On the 25th, the Ministry of Environment finalized the subsidy guidelines for EV charging facilities. This year, the budget to support EV charging facility installation is 618.7 billion KRW, a 43% increase compared to the previous year. Of this, 375.7 billion KRW will be allocated for the installation of rapid chargers, and 243 billion KRW for the installation of smart-controlled slow chargers with enhanced safety features.

The Ministry of Environment adjusted the subsidy amounts through the ‘Product Evaluation Committee,’ composed of external advisory members. The subsidy for rapid chargers (100kW) had remained at 20 million KRW since 2022, but from this year, considering inflation, it will be increased to 26 million KRW. For slow chargers (7kW), subsidies were divided last year into general (1.4 million KRW) and smart (1.8 million KRW), but this year, only smart chargers will receive 2.2 million KRW.

Additionally, subsidies will be available for the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems to prevent fires.

Rapid charger installations will be prioritized in densely populated urban areas with demand, such as aging apartment complexes or large supermarkets. Previously, installations were mainly at gas station sites, highways, and national road rest areas.

The maintenance obligations of charging facility operators, including repairs, have been further strengthened. If operators fail to comply with these obligations, subsidy payments will be restricted, and this will also be reflected in the evaluation of project-performing organizations for the following year.
