Equipped with a futsal field, jokgu court, and more with a total investment of 28.9 billion KRW
Daejeon City announced that it has completed the construction of Myeongam Neighborhood Park and will open it to the public starting in March.
The construction of Myeongam Neighborhood Park was promoted to resolve issues such as environmental degradation and decline in economic value that residents have experienced since a public crematorium was established in Myeongam Village, Jeongnim-dong, Seo-gu in 1976, and to promote balanced regional development.
Beginning with its inclusion in the basic park and green space plan in June 2009, a total of 28.9 billion KRW was invested over 16 years to equip the 28,970 square meter (8,763 pyeong) park with landscaping facilities and various sports amenities, including one jokgu court and one futsal field.
The city plans to transfer the park facilities to Seo-gu Office and will continue to manage them so that citizens can use them more safely and conveniently.
Kim Jongmin, Director of Welfare at Daejeon City, said, "Jeongsuwon (the crematorium) will be relocated to Daejeon Memorial Park in phases due to aging and increased demand for cremation," and added, "We expect that the creation of Myeongam Neighborhood Park will help alleviate negative perceptions of cremation facilities and provide a pleasant living environment for local residents."
