Designed to support a better life by expanding the social networks of single men and women, promoting personal growth, and enhancing overall social happiness, the event attracted 2,356 applicants for just 100 spots, resulting in a highly competitive ratio of 23 to 1. Among the applicants, 974 were men, with a competition ratio of 19 to 1, and 1,382 were women, with a ratio of 27 to 1. Age distribution was 17% for 25-29 years, 40% for 30-34 years, 31% for 35-39 years, and 12% for 40-45 years. The 100 participants who overcame the 23 to 1 competition ratio enjoyed various programs during the event, including one-on-one eye contact, recreational games, and a museum date concept. The event was designed to allow participants to naturally engage in conversations with many members of the opposite sex.
The event's core theme was 'Art.' Upon entering the venue, participants were divided into groups based on the art postcards they selected and moved around the venue, which was decorated like an art museum, to appreciate artworks. Kim Chanyong, CEO of Talk About Art, who served as the event guide and docent, explained, "Art is a medium that allows people to enjoy art itself without concern for money and to share emotions with others. This is why we chose art as the concept for this event and formed groups based on artistic preferences."
After participants listed their top 1 to 3 preferred partners in the final step, the matched individuals were notified of the results the afternoon following the event. The city and Hanwha General Insurance plan to provide the 22 newly formed couples with tickets to museum exhibitions to help them spend more time getting to know each other and creating memories.
Kim Seonsun, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Women and Family Office, said, "We sincerely congratulate those who became couples," adding, "Starting with this Valentine's Day event, we hope many single men and women will participate in the three upcoming matchmaking opportunities this year and find good matches."
The city will hold additional matchmaking events for single men and women in cooperation with Hanwha General Insurance and Shinhan Card, scheduled for Family Month in May, Youth Day in September, and Pepero Day in November this year.
