US Posts Record 200 Billion Euro Trade Deficit with Europe Last Year

The United States' trade deficit with the European Union (EU) reached a record high last year, according to reports.

On the 17th (local time), the British daily The Telegraph reported that the U.S. recorded a trade deficit of approximately 200 billion euros (about 302 trillion won) with the EU last year. The U.S. imported goods worth 531.6 billion euros from the EU, while the EU's imports from the U.S. amounted to only 333.3 billion euros.

The U.S. trade deficit with the EU increased by more than 25% from 156.6 billion euros the previous year. It also far exceeded the previous record deficit of 166.9 billion euros set in 2021.

Earlier, President Donald Trump had criticized the trade imbalance with the EU. Earlier this month, President Trump targeted the EU, saying, "They buy almost nothing from us, such as our cars and agricultural products, while we buy everything from them."

In response, President Trump has ordered a study on reciprocal tariffs against trading partners, including countries that impose value-added tax. On the 13th, he signed a presidential memorandum focusing on imposing reciprocal tariffs.
