KRC Jeonbuk Headquarters to Invest 310.7 Billion KRW in Drainage Improvement Project

30 Districts Selected
Increase in Farm Household Income

The Jeonbuk Regional Headquarters of Korea Rural Community Corporation is implementing a drainage improvement project with an investment of 310.7 billion KRW.

According to the Jeonbuk Headquarters on the 17th, this project is the largest in the country, with 30 districts selected as new project and basic survey targets, and has been finally confirmed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

This achievement was made by continuously submitting proposals to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, in line with recent government policies, by conducting crop cultivation status surveys and analyzing the causes of chronic flooding areas to review the feasibility of the project.

The drainage improvement project is a fully government-funded initiative that installs major water facilities such as drainage stations, drainage gates, and drainage channels in farmland areas of 50 hectares or more that are frequently affected by flooding during heavy rainfall.

For new project districts, 14 locations including Namjeong in Wanju (137.3 billion KRW, 1,877 ha) have been selected, with detailed designs to be carried out this year and full-scale construction to begin next year.

For basic survey target districts, 16 locations including Hamna in Iksan (173.4 billion KRW, 1,915 ha) have been selected, and basic surveys such as project feasibility analysis and resident opinion collection will be completed by December this year, with the aim of being selected as new project districts next year.

In particular, among the basic survey target districts, the drainage improvement project for the Nonkong district (9 districts, 68.7 billion KRW, 1,098 ha) was uniquely selected on a large scale in the Jeonbuk region, making it a regional specialized project.

This year, the Jeonbuk Headquarters has also secured a project budget of 88.9 billion KRW and is currently implementing drainage improvement projects in 43 districts covering 6,128 ha.

The budget for the drainage improvement project at the Jeonbuk Headquarters has steadily increased each year to prevent flood damage caused by recent abnormal weather, and this year's secured budget of 88.9 billion KRW is an 11% increase compared to last year's 81.5 billion KRW.

The main contents of the projects currently underway in 43 districts include plans to newly build or expand 18 drainage stations, 91 drainage gates, and 380 km (704 sections) of drainage channels for rapid drainage during floods.

The headquarters expects that by newly building or expanding disaster prevention facilities such as drainage stations, drainage channels, and drainage gates, the project will help prevent flood damage in chronically flooded areas and increase farm household income.

Kim Dongin, head of the headquarters, said, "In line with the recent government policy to promote the cultivation of alternative crops, we will do our best to continuously expand the implementation of drainage improvement projects to prevent flood damage to crops such as Nonkong and Garussal."
